Ms Fits salutes the appropriate pounding of Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone by ABC's Tony Eastley. We've learnt that Ministers in the Howard government don't need to display accountability. Moreover, they presume to throw bile in every direction except at themselves. As Margo Kingston rightly demands: "...laugh out loud. It's all she deserves, apart from being forced from office."
UPDATE: Eastley's comments were "indicative of an attitude" at the ABC, claimed Vanstone, after revelations emerged that the ABC had removed the "controversial" parts from the interview transcript. Amanda, surely you have more important issues to deal with, such as ensuring no more Australian citizens are deported.
For the record, the ABC really shouldn't be changing the online transcript of the interview. If Eastley truly misspoke (?!), they could acknowledge this at the bottom of the page, but deleting questions from the public record simply provides ammunition to the ABC-haters that the national broadcaster is hiding something.

There is nothing this government does that the right wingers won't defend. Rather humorous to watch, and pathetic at the same time. Here comes more allegations of left-wing bias at the ABC, blah, blah, blah.... and YAWN!
The upside of course is that this issue gains some prominence. Yes, Wilesmith should not have played cute but stood firm. Eastley's remark was certainly warranted. Vanstone was trying to deflect criticism from DIMIA onto the priest and the victim herself.
Eastley tried to put a brake on her self-justifications. She responded with cliches about bias. Cleverly but far too cutely. The deflection will not stand the test of time. Wait till this gets to court.
She is a touchy unit. Hopefully she will go home and take out some of her frustrations on the department. They require a good look at.
Think it may be time to bring back that old Mandy site. More true by the day.....
But wait, the ABC should be privatised immediately, Blair said recently. Great idea, really. Let me guess. Murdoch and Packer would get more powerful and alternative (read progressive) viewpoints would almost disappear....
