Pleasing the Right

The Bush administration described the Darfur atrocities as genocide in order to please the Christian right ahead of the American presidential elections, according to a senior US official. America's former ambassador to the United Nations, John Danforth tells the BBC that the decision was taken to appease a domestic audience.

While the fundamentalists are kept happy, Sudan remains in dire need of international assistance.

i assume 'international assistance' means a east timor style invasion of Dafur. Anything else is like the UN intervention in Yougoslavia or Rawanda in the early 90's.

Also funny how the evangelists are more realistic about Darfur then the UN, which doesnt view the crisis as genocide.
