Time out

I'm going down the NSW coast for the weekend. Blogging will recommence early next week.

So, in my absence, a few suggestions. Check out this revealing New Yorker interview with a father whose son was killed in Iraq. Then read Howard Zinn's essay on American exceptionalism, published in the Boston Review.

Leave your thoughts in comments about Howard's control of the Senate. Pros and cons welcome.

Have a good weekend.

Ant, interesting couple of articles, particularly when you see the common thread of appeals to religion running through American history, and their behaviour toward other countries. The ease with which millions of people are swayed by appeals to superstition is disturbing - who needs proof or reason when you have faith? It just reminds me that little has changed since Hitler and Goebells.

As to Howard and our own problems? I see good and bad - the bad is obvious and clear, and well stated in many places. The good is that the OZ people, especially those who voted for Howard will now get to see what he and his ilk are really all about. They may then actually come to take this thing called democracy, and their responsibility as voters seriously. Hopefully they will realize you NEVER give control of both houses of parliament to the executive Government of the day.

Hopefully...

Hey Ant, looks like interesting doings in Chavez' worker's paradise...extrajudicial killings, students murdered, human rights abuses in the jails, massive protest marches against the government. Good thing Chavez hates W or he'd have the whole angry left to deal with!

Why are rightist trolls always anonymous?

Because we are clearly scared of the omnipotent power the left holds over the social discourse in this country, and we understand the left's penchant for backstabbing, peurile agitprop and vindictive behaviour. Don't worry champ, if we met I'd make sure you remembered me.

doylie - unless I'm very much mistaken, it seems apparent that cb is attempting to tell you it's an aggro name calling rightist troll arsehole.

On the new senate;
Howard has been/is very busy dismantling every single social reform Labor has placed.
Every one.
The Senate majority will enable completion of the progrom.

Question is, will Labor ever realize what they're up against?
