Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, Robert Whitehead, has resigned. He will remain with Fairfax and become director of marketing and newspaper sales.
The future path? Hopefully a more interesting, challenging and provocative newspaper than its current form. Don't count on it. When lifestyle and insider journalism is considered the bastions of a once great media empire, we should expect little better.

Well if the BBC and the New York Times can be (respectively) intimidated and co-opted by executive power, hope for a provincial empire like Fairfax does seem a bit quixotic.
