The response to the assassination, on the blogsphere as well as in Sri Lanka, makes for an interesting comparison to our War on Terrorism. So far there's been remarakble restraint, but Kumaratunga (Lankan President) has placed the nation under a State of Emergency so who knows what happens next. How would the Americans react if their Secretary of State was assassinated by Al Qaeda? I doubt there'd be any consideration of capturing and prosecuting the assassin. As for consideration of ordinance from 20,000ft...
Sri Lanka, sadly, has had years of civil strife and your observations are indeed correct. I was there earlier in the year, a few months after the tsunami. People didn't really want to talk about the Tamil issues, in the hope that they were in the past... Seems like that was a forlorn hope...
USA, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine was all work and research for my current book. Sri Lanka was the holiday I deserved at the end, and met my girlfriend... I need another holiday now, but that's gonna have to wait, book deadline is end of this month....
Yep, two weeks today the first draft is due. On track, thankfully. Written around 120,000 words but may be cut back a little. 3-4 months of reworking and May 2006 release... The coming months will be hell....
