Politics is a stage managed show. Reality is but one prop. If it doesn't suit the picture, best to use something different. This is colloquially known as 'speaking from your arse'.

Or changing the goal posts as it suits.
Does anybody anymore believe that Iraq will end up being a positive for the West? And why must a country be friendly to the West anyway?
Perhaps those with economic and ideological baggage invested...
