Private eyes

The US Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton is, thankfully, being watched.

So much for the short leash Condi assured the world, was supposed to restrain this lunatic.

As far as I'm concerned, the month of February can't end soon enough. Scott ritter has said that he has heard from good sourcesw that Bolton has already written his speech to the UN, whereby he will declare that the Un has failed to restrain Iran and that the US has no choice but to act pre-emptively.

I fear so. One hears little about Bolton in the Aussie media, though his influence is disturbing.
The US 'taking out' Iran? The world has no choice? So our media tells us. Where's the cynicism post Iraq? In intelligence circles, it's everywhere, while the media blindly follows the govt lines.

I'm sure Scott Ritter's sources are impeccable these days...

How often do you mix in "intelligence circles", Ant? Just wondering how qualified you are to make such a statement. I fear you've been listening far too much to blowhards like Ritter.

For those who are not familiar with Bolton, think of a cross between Al "chainsaw" Dunlap and Bruce Ruxton's evil twin. This man considers it his perrogative to lie and makes most of the neocons look abtou as menacing as Olivia Newton John.

I wish I knew.

Iran does not help itself with some of its outragious statements though.

I read somewhere (was it on this blog?), that a criminal breaks the law to defraud us, a hypocrite uses the law to do the same.

It should be entirely irrelevant what statements emanate from Iran, and what they say. People who are under sustained unfair attack will react in various ways. Too many people justify US behavior on the grounds that they can bend process, and violate the spirit of law. It is sickening that Iran's proclamations can be used against them in a perverted justification of extreme behavior against them, while genuine perfidy can be celebrated because diplomacy is treated as if it is some football game to be won and lost. Bolton is evil, period. His goals are evil, his methods are evil, and his ideology is evil. That should be sufficient grounds to disbar him as unsuitable to deliberate on the fate of millions of human beings.

You are right Johd,

Bolton is such a stain on diplomacy, and such a disgusting figure that he couldn't even get a confirmation vote in the Republican controlled Senate.

His proudest momnet was being able sign a denunciation of the international court of justice, meanign that the US woud no longer be a signatory to the protocol.

That's Bolton's idea of diplomacy.
