'belief in true democracy'? sounds like you're being awfully culturally imperialist there, anty me boy! who are you to say whether the singaporeans even want your brand of 'true democracy'?
Believing in freedom of speech and the press is not the same as imposing Western ideals on another country, a la US imperialism.
'My brand' of democracy is simply that people should have the choice of what they read, see etc.
To believe only in the US model, so discredited by now, is shallow in the xtreme...
Riiiiight...that terrible discredited US model that everyone wants to emulate and immigrate to and beat....name one country in the Muslim world where people have those freedoms in anywhere near as great a degree as we do in Oz, or our compatriots in the US? (Granted, you can now get thrown in the clink in Victoria for saying naughty things about the prophet, peace be upon him, but that's another story.)
