Brave Chinese defector Chen Yonglin has been granted a permanent Australian protection visa. "I was from a different world and that's (been) my dream to start a new life, totally different from my past," Mr Chen said. "I believe it will be a life of freedom." Chen thanked the Australian people for their support.

Interesting his visa was announced on Friday afternoon in a typical news dump way. Apparently Canberra wants to go as quietly as possible to minimize any pain for Beijing. Downer must having been thanking his lucky stars that London bombing took place on Thursday and taking all headlines space away.
