News bytes

- The BBC proves its pro-Israel bias.

- A law professor at the University of California at Berkeley, John Yoo, talks at the American Enterprise Institute and calls for the assassination of more suspected "terrorists."

- The Australian's Paul Kelly dissects Mark Latham's forthcoming personal diaries (disclosure: it's being produced by my publisher, Melbourne University Publishing.)

- Ariel Sharon may think that Israel's responsibility is finished in the Gaza Strip but he is sadly mistaken. When his country still controls the air, sea and land borders, Israel has a long way to still prove to the world that Gaza isn't a large prison.

- What's with the rich and hiring mercenaries? Millionaires in New Orleans have hired mercenaries to protect their homes. Blackwater and ISI are just two of the companies that also work in Iraq.

Terrorist groups don't really care that much about innocent civilians getting killed. (Kind of obvious when you think about it...) There was a far bigger fuss when some group founder (I think it was of hamas of hizb'allah) was killed than over this.

Suggesting that this suicide bombing wouldn't have occurred if the Palestinians hadn't been killed would be nothing more than speculation.

Perhaps, but well worth stating, surely?
As for terrorist group not really caring about their victims, this is true. But what about the many more innocent victims of state terror?
It's astounding that the number of Iraqis killed since the US invasion could be in the hundreds of thousands, and yet, pro-war supporters still comfort themselves with thoughts of 'liberation.'

The terrorists are more upset about guilty non-victims than innocent victims.

Far more pro-war supporters recognise that what they advocated was a lesser of two evils than those who'd let potentially hundreds of thousands die from Saddam, comforting themselves with thoughts of "peace".
