Don't hold your breath

Haaretz, October 17:

"Afghan President Hamid Karzai would recognize Israel's government if an independent Palestinian state was first established, Karzai's spokesman said yesterday.

"'We will establish relations with Israel after our Palestinian brothers have an independent and free state,' Karim Rahimi quoted the president as saying."

Afghanistan will be waiting a very long time for an "independent and free [Palestinian] state." Nothing on the table currently even discusses such a proposal. Gaza is still essentially occupied and surrounded on air, sea and land borders. While America offers platitudes and kindly asks Israel to "ease the daily plight of the Palestinian people", the nearly 4o-year old illegal occupation continues.

Not wanting to be prejudiced against a country of born sharpshooters who are quick with the knife (woman and children aside).

But surely diplomatic recognition from Afghanistan would be the Kiss of Death for any country.

Shabadoo: Afghanistan = A DIFFERENT COUNTRY to Pakistan. Try GoogleEarth, geography is tops.

In any case Shabadoo, plenty of faiths consider fellow believers to be brothers ans sisters - EVEN if those people are of a different ethnicity. Amazing huh? Perhaps you should resist next time you feel compelled to demonstrate your ignorance to all and sundry. It tends to make you look foolish. I'm sure you don't want that.

Marcus-

My bad, I meant Afghanistan...I'm all agog for alliteration.

But that's kind of what I was going for, of course I knew the answer already. How much misery is caused around the world by this idiotic notion of 'brotherhood' based on religion? I reckon it's all just an excuse to burn churches, behead Buddhists, avoid the needle, kill darker people, avoid reading or looking at pretty girls, and play with guns.

Oh Shaba

Methinks your "mistake" is but a vehicle to display inneresting hotlinks.

A budding blogmeister of the future perhaps?

It's quite laughable really.

Hamid Karzai is trying so hard to convince the international community he has any legitimacy. The guy cannot even venture outside of Kabul, where his safety is under threat, and here is, making grandiose gentures that no one is going to take any notice of.

There are many leaders chosen by their countrymen who can not venture out because of the many terrorists who care not what the people want. Only what they want.

'this idiotic notion of 'brotherhood' based on religion'

Yes, and there's the even more idiotic notion of forming a state based on religion! I ask you, where will it end?

It won't. And that, in itself, is neither a good nor bad thing.

But when you found a state based on a religion that appears to worship death, it is time to head for the hills.

From my understading, the religion helps people become less fearful of death. that doesn't mean it worships death.

Given how much fear permeates most western societies, I'd say the religion to which you are referring has a powerful message.
