Not before time

This is long overdue:

"Delegates of the 192-nation Geneva Conventions met in special session Monday to consider adding a new emblem that could drop a half-century barrier to Israel's becoming a full member of the international Red Cross movement caring for victims of armed conflict.

"Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, who has spearheaded the effort to resolve the long-standing dispute, told the conference it should add a "red crystal" to the red cross and red crescent already in use because it would help make the movement universal."

The only way for greater understanding between Israel and the wider world - aside from ending the occupation, abolishing racially discriminatory policies etc - is mutual respect. This would be a positive start.

Yes...of course as the story notes the Arabs have been the bloody-minded ones on this from the beginning, even before the 'occupation', never wanting to legitimize the Jews by letting them use their symbol as the MUslims get to use theirs.

Israel has been prevented from joinign the Red Cross? Good loord, no wonder the UN General Assembly is so contemptuously dismissed by the civilised world.

Gee, who would prefer to tend to me after another disgusting brainwashed Muslim blows himself up? Fatah, Hamas or an Israeli hospital.

Decisions, decisions.

Er, right, thanks for that clarification.
Seems like you've been drinking a little too much of the John Bolton kool aid...

Oh dear. Hun, the UN General Assembly has been irrelevant for decades. It is nothing more than a whinge club for countries too backward and chicken to face up to their own failures. But they are reasonably successful at getting us to pay them welfare.

The UN General Assmebly has no respect, no clout. no credibility, no influence and no power.

My own preference is for the Anglossphere, western europe, China, India, Japan, and some Latin American nations to break away and form a legitimate world body.

Anty, even the previous Bolton-haters at the UN have admitted that he's doing good there and trying to get that organisation to be worthwhile and more than just a corrupt debating shop.

Name them Shab.

Bolton is an undisputed wrecking ball. He's such an embarassment, the Repug controlled Senate woudn't give him a thumbs up.

The guys is a sociopath and a liar of extraordniary proportions. Even the UK, which never disagrees 3ith the US on matters of diplomacy, had to turn their back on his last crazy UN proposal.

Scott Ritter said Bush chose his to destroy the UN and he's well on his way.

Yeah, stirling performance.

Scott Ritter also likes to masturbate in front of underage girls at Hungry Jack's - what's your point?

Anyway, Addamo (nice MaGRolian spelling there, by the way -- is that in honour of her dubious departure?), have a read of this piece which says Bolton is hardly the ogre you all make him out to be.

You dizzy man Shab. Your pea brain evidently is unable to comprehend anything beyond headlines.

Anybody who doesn't reaslise that Ritter was specifically targeted on account of his political activities needs to seek help.

Police just happened to conduct a "sex sting" operation against the one man who had exposed the lies of our war-mad rulers from the inside. The entrapment was apparently so transparent, so obviously the clumsiest sort of Cointelpro-style operation badly bungled, that the charges were dropped to the legal equivalent of a traffic ticket. The records were sealed not to protect Ritter, but to protect whomever tried to set him up.

And thanks for showing me you do al least have a sense of humor by quoting from that rag that passes for a newpaper called the WSJ. I wil give you the benefit fo the doubt, and presume you know little about Bolton, for if you did, I would assume you also a fan of Charles Manson.

Wake up Shab. Bolton's own colleagues think he's toxic, and you are trying to make a hero out of him. The Bushies were so embarassed about his record they refused to release records of his correspondence. As an appeasement, Rice promised the Senate that she would keep Bolton on a leash.

What does the one have to do with the other? Are you labouring under the misapprehension the RC is an organ of the UN?
