One major step back

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice predicts that this week’s Iraqi elections will bring the most democratic government "in the entire Middle East."

Israel has been officially side-lined as an autocracy.

Well I wouldn't think anything of Rico's omission. She knows Israel is democratic compared to most (all?) others in the Middle East.

America's friends, by they Australia or Israel, are used to being taken for granted.

We mustn't forget that Iraq has got so much oil (and we don't) that imposed D-emokracy is worth every US bullet.

We should consider ourselves lucky that we are not a target of such special "love and care".

Rice was probably comparing Iraq to Egypt and Jordan, two autocracies that exist today only because of US support.

Israel is a democracy for all of it's citizens, as with the US, Mexico, England, Russia, France, Australia, etc... resident aliens do not have the right to vote.

Well this is what you call a Freudian Slip? Realistically who would say that Israel is part of the Middle East?

interesting thought.

Good one - Now that's funny. The asylum line,-isn't it something like "We're in the asylum but not a patient".? I forget.

or congregate, or use roads, go through gates, get passports, sleep soundly at night, or know from one week to the next wether they can work or visit their families,

resident aliens? how sweet it would be to swap a few lives for a year or two, then ask a few questions of the swapped

Aren't the Israelis the "resident aliens"?

It would be nice is some American had the backbone to state the unvarnished truth.

It is only an extremely anti-semitic world under the thumb of oil-based fascist Arab muslim nutters that could even contemplate creating a fourth Palestinian state.

Given that these people have thumbed their noses at international laws and diplomatic agreements for 60 years the only viable solution is to transfer the West Bank Arabs to Jordan and Syria.

Perhaps Condi will prove to be the American with that backbone.

Condi vs. Hillary in 2008.

You Go Girls!

OMFG! Still can’t accept a Jewish state? It's been there defending itself since before 1948 (in the sense that autonomous Jewish communities, providing for themselves, also had to defend themselves)! I guess Iranian style politics is in vogue, eh?

Israeli Jews are not resident aliens, but Israelis!

---

Eeeek, neolefty! I dislike the US presidential system and their elections. The US would have benefited from a Westminster system of government, in my humble opinion.

Condi v. Hillary, eh? Who would you bet on to win that?

Oh well. As they sow, so they shall reap. More poverty, misery, and ignorance.

Besides, I predict that within a few years the wretches will have blown each other to smithereens. GOOD! I am sick to death of hearing them whingeing.

It took ages to eliminate the oppression of the South African state within South Africa. It took ages to eliminate the oppression of the Indonesian state in East Timor. But justice prevailed eventually - and unexpectedly - in both case. The Palestinian Tragedy has some way to go - but justice will eventually come - perhaps as unexpectedly too.

I wonder if there is a fund being raised to contribute to the Wall being finished as quickly as possible and to expedite settlemet building on the West Bank? I will donate in a flash! We can no longer stand for being bullied by these vile medieval Arab men!

Ah, actually the Jews fought for their land and bitchslapped the Nazi Arabs into next week. So I think the Israelis do not really need to rely on The Bible for legitimacy.

On the other hand, we really need to start asking why these Arabs should be different from all other agressors who lose wars. WHY are they still permitted to squat on Israeli land?

Exactly. I reckon Astralia should fight for East Timor and make that OUR land too. There isn't a moral argument in the world that could stop us then. Mwuhahahaha!

"and bitchslapped the Nazi Arabs into next week."

Nazi Arabs? Huh! I thought it was Nazi Martian Communist Arab Daleks.

Well I'd vote for Condi personally.

I think there's more to her than just being one of ol'Dubya's team.

There's just gotta be a moderate soul there somewhere. Just gotta!

If there is any remnants of a moderate soul in Condi, it's been overwhelmingly held captive by ambition.

Senator Harry Reid hust spelled out what a pirce of work she is. She's just travelled to Europe to convince the leaders of the region that the US does not toture, but if it did, it wouldn't be such a bad, thing. Upon returning, she rebuffed Congress about the whole issue, refusing to meet in a classified venue so that they couldn't ask questions that called for classified answers.

Visions of Condi in hot leather aside.

She's got brains, but tied down by Bush's amorality. She's not one of the boys.

All politicians are corrupt and deceitful mouthpieces, but her very potential to rattle the smug cage of the US, by virtue of her being female and black, may well make Condi worth voting for.

Vive le difference!

I agree that Condi has a lot of potential, but I just don't trust her one bit.

Corrupt and deceiptful is one thing, but I just don't think this woman is prepared to do anyting that contradicts the hand that feeds her.

Well at least she isn't a Muslim, otherwise we'd all be screwed, especially part-retarded teenage boys who are fitted up with enough TNT to guarantee their date with the 72 virgins.

Pity they didn't get their virgins while they were on earth, then maybe we all wouldn't have to suffer so much from the vile evil medieval fuckers.

Peope in Condi's poistion usually account for more deaths in this world than any suicide bomber ever could.

He predecessor, Albright, regarded the deaths of half a million Iraqi childen as a worhtwhile investment.

Exactly right about Albright! The ugly bitch.

Condi has stepped up a gear since she's had something tangible she can relate to. Sometimes I think she'd be OK, then (sweeping aside my leather clad bondage fantasies)you get a glimpse of Thatcher X 2 and I get very afraid.

Neoleftychick, perhaps you could illustrate your point with some examples of Muslim women who hold positions in government.

Quick, crank that meta-search!
